Is there a way to find out if the project needs to be saved?

When you make a change to a saved project, a * appears next to it's name in the title bar. Is there a way to detect this state in scripting?

I've requested it from Adobe many times but unfortunately as of CS5.5 it is still not in the scripting API.
The way Adobe decides what features to implement is based on how many people request it so I would encourage you to request it here:
