What is the process for splitting a layer.
Do you have to duplicate the layer and set start and end times then set the in and out points?

Yep, that's what you need to do.. You can look at my magnum script for reference.. I split the layer at the found edit points.

with alittle help like this I may be able to
write a functioning script one of these days.
Ive been looking at your magnum script
Pauls shift selected layers
and Peters crossfade overlaps.
Trying to mash them together to make an
auto loop generator.
albeit little intimidating at first for a non programmer
I'm determined to figure it out.
